Matsa is a modern and sustainable Spanish mining company which owns and operates three mines in the province of Huelva: Aguas Teñidas and Magdalena mines located in Almonaster la Real, and the Sotiel mine located in Calañas, in the province of Huelva. Matsa is based in the Almonaster la Real municipality, in the north of the Iberian Pyrite Belt. This mining district extends over 250 km, and it has been a source of metals since Phoenician times over 2,500 years ago. Matsa is a jointly-owned company by Mubadala Investment Company, a pioneering global investor, deploying capital with integrity and ingenuity to accelerate economic growth for the long-term benefit of Abu Dhabi, and by Trafigura, one of the world’s leading independent commodity trading and logistics houses.

Matsas’s business consists of the exploration and extraction of mineral deposits as well as the processing of mineral ores at the company’s facilities situated in the Almonaster la Real municipality. The processing plant has a technical capacity to process more than 4.4 million tonnes of copper and polymetallic ore each year. It is designed to operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The mining method is based on the underground exploitation of primary and secondary stopes which are subsequently backfilled with a paste generated from the tailings exiting the process plant.


The Mining Director will be responsible for optimizing the safe extraction of minerals and wastes in the Matsa’s operation through the supervision and control of the works carried out by both employees and contractors at Aguas Teñidas, Magdalena and Sotiel mines, and in the paste and shotcrete plants, promoting:

 The efficiency of the processes through the operations control.

  • A continuous improvement in safety standards, through the training area.
  • Productivity, optimizing costs and focusing on quality and high standards.
  • Lead the relationship with contractors, ensuring that they comply with the specifications established in their contracts, aligned with Matsa´s values.
  • Systematically apply and ensure compliance with the policies, procedures, values ​​and behaviors and the code of conduct of Matsa.
  • Adequately prioritize the activity to achieve the objectives.
  • Establish processes / systems aligned with the business-plan and help exceed expectations.
  • Guarantee the security (availability, confidentiality, and integrity) of the data, services and systems used and / or managed, which are applicable to this position.

The Mining Director will promote best practices in health, safety, and environment by implementing appropriate procedures to mitigate environmental risks at the mine, being an exemplary leader. Moreover, the Mining Director will perform effectively to achieve the HSE- objectives, according to the standards agreed and be a leader in health, safety and environment through personal behavior and conversations, reporting the incidents and being involved in initiatives, review, and investigations.

The Mining Director will be accountable for the safety of all personnel and involve actively to ensure that all regulatory obligations and standards are met.

Education, experience, and skills

The Mining Director has 10 - 15 years of experience in mine, with a minimum of 5 years in management of mining operations and have a degree as Mining Engineer.

(B Sc or M Sc) or similar. According to the European framework of reference for languages, a level of C1 in English and Spanish is required as minimum level.
